2025 World Manufacturing Convention - Sustainable Development of the CNC Machining Industry
On July 17, 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued the "Implementation Plan for the 'Industrial Mother Machine+' Production-Demand Matching Activity for Hundreds of Industries and Tens of Thousands of Enterprises," with an implementation period of three years. Focusing on the theme of production-demand matching, the activity selects innovative industrial mother machine products with urgent market demand, advanced technology, significant application effects, and outstanding promotional value. Simultaneously, it collects and sorts out user process technology requirements and equipment upgrade needs, promoting communication and cooperation between industrial mother machine suppliers and consumers in areas such as paired assistance, application iteration, upgrades, and market expansion, effectively driving the market expansion and technological innovation of its industrial chain.
Technological innovation is the core driving force for the development of my country's Cnc Machine tool industry. Accelerating technological innovation is mainly reflected in the following four aspects:
I. Intelligentization
Integration with new-generation information technologies such as artificial intelligence enables CNC machine tools to achieve real-time monitoring and intelligent optimization of the machining process. Various sensors on the machine tool collect data such as machining temperature, vibration, and cutting force in real time. Using big data technology, potential faults can be detected in a timely manner, providing early warnings and adjustments for maintenance, effectively improving operational reliability and stability. For example, cutting parameters can be automatically adjusted based on tool wear.
II. High Precision
High-end manufacturing demands increasingly higher machining precision, rising from millimeter-level to micrometer-level and even nanometer-level. To achieve these precision targets, finite element analysis and other technologies are employed in structural design to optimize key components such as the machine bed and column, reducing machining deformation errors. High-precision ball screws, guideways, bearings, and other core components, along with advanced assembly processes, ensure motion and positioning accuracy. Simultaneously, advanced digital signal processing technology and error compensation algorithms are used to compensate for motion errors in real time, effectively improving machining precision, such as nanometer-level interpolation accuracy.
III. High Speed
Increasingly fierce market competition makes improving efficiency a key means of enhancing competitiveness, requiring faster completion of machining tasks and increased production efficiency.
High-speed drive systems utilize advanced drive devices such as high-speed electric spindles and linear motors to achieve high spindle speeds and accelerations. Some high-speed machining centers achieve spindle speeds exceeding 60,000 r/min. Lightweight design, high-rigidity structures, and advanced transmission technologies are employed in the feed system to improve system response speed and motion accuracy.
IV. Green Manufacturing
In the context of global sustainable development, green manufacturing has become a trend in The Cnc Machine tool industry, permeating the entire lifecycle of CNC machine tools (design, manufacturing, use, and recycling).
During the design phase, energy efficiency and environmental performance of machine tools are considered, employing energy-saving drive systems, optimized structural design, and recyclable materials. In the manufacturing phase, green manufacturing processes, such as dry cutting, are applied to reduce pollution, while simultaneously reducing, neutralizing, and recycling manufacturing waste. During the use phase, remote monitoring and fault diagnosis are implemented to promptly identify and resolve operational problems, preventing energy waste and production interruptions caused by equipment failures. A comprehensive recycling system is established to recycle and reuse scrapped machine tool parts, achieving resource recycling.
The automotive industry chain, the largest application area for CNC machine tools, accounts for 40% of demand. The accelerated development of the new energy vehicle industry is driving upgrades in automotive manufacturing processes, with the processing of core components such as batteries, motors, and electronic controls placing higher demands on the precision, speed, and intelligence of CNC machine tools. For example, to ensure battery performance, battery electrode processing requires micron-level precision, while motor rotor processing demands high-speed, high-efficiency, and high-precision cutting from machine tools. Enterprises are increasing investment in CNC machine tool upgrades and technological advancements, driving sustained market demand growth.
With the rapid development of my country's aviation and low-orbit satellite industries, and the advancement of projects such as large aircraft and satellite constellations, the demand for high-end CNC machine tools continues to grow. Aviation product components are mostly complex in structure, require high precision, and are made from difficult-to-machine materials. For example, aero-engine blades not only have complex shapes and require sub-micron-level surface precision but also need to withstand high-temperature and high-pressure working environments, requiring CNC machine tools with high-axis Machining Capabilities and high machining precision. The aviation sector accounts for 17% of CNC machine tool demand.
The mold industry is a crucial foundation of manufacturing, accounting for approximately 13% of CNC machine tool demand. Mold processing precision and quality directly affect the performance and appearance of downstream products. In industries such as consumer electronics and home appliances, the rapid pace of product updates places higher demands on mold precision, complexity, and manufacturing cycles. CNC machine tools, with their advantages of high precision and high flexibility, can quickly respond to diverse needs, making them key equipment in the mold industry. my country's 14th Five-Year Plan outlines the need to promote the optimization and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, cultivate advanced manufacturing clusters, and drive the integrated, clustered, and ecological development of strategic emerging industries, aiming for the added value of strategic emerging industries to exceed 17% of GDP. Advanced industries such as automobiles, integrated circuits, and robotics all utilize CNC machine tools for precision manufacturing. As the types of advanced manufacturing industries in my country continue to diversify, the demand for CNC machine tools is constantly increasing.
